希伯来书11:33-38
33他们因着信，制伏了敌国，行了公义，得了应许，堵了狮子的口。34灭了烈火的猛势，脱了刀剑的锋刃，软弱变为刚强，争战显出勇敢，打退外邦的全军。35有妇人得自己的死人复活，又有人忍受严刑，不肯苟且得释放（释放原文作赎），为要得着更美的复活。36又有人忍受戏弄，鞭打，捆锁，监禁，各等的磨炼。37被石头打死，被锯锯死，受试探，被刀杀。披着绵羊山羊的皮各处奔跑，受穷乏，患难，苦害。38在旷野，山岭，山洞，地穴，飘流无定。本是世界不配有的人。
33By faith these people overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, 34quenched the flames of fire, and escaped death by the edge of the sword. Their weakness was turned to strength. They became strong in battle and put whole armies to flight. 35Women received their loved ones back again from death.But others were tortured, refusing to turn from God in order to be set free. They placed their hope in a better life after the resurrection. 36Some were jeered at, and their backs were cut open with whips. Others were chained in prisons. 37Some died by stoning, some were sawed in half,#11:37 Some manuscripts add some were tested. and others were killed with the sword. Some went about wearing skins of sheep and goats, destitute and oppressed and mistreated. 38They were too good for this world, wandering over deserts and mountains, hiding in caves and holes in the ground.
